NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Food Truck Program
In 2022, the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital collaborated with the New York Food Truck Association to serve over 140,000 free meals to their employees at 11 hospital locations over the course of five weeks. The Employee Appreciation Food Truck Program was made possible in large part by generous donations from John and Christy Mack and an anonymous NewYork-Presbyterian trustee. Rather than serving with traditional event catering services like catering companies, NYP elected to work with NYFTA and serve delicious food from local food truck vendors. Not only did this invite a friendly staff with unique catering menu options, but it helped in supporting local NYC businesses.
The NYFTA Solution
To show appreciation to NewYork-Presbyterian staff, employees enjoyed free meals from a diverse selection of cuisines from New York’s best local food truck, ranging from lobster rolls and steak to açai and poké bowls. For this 5-week program, we created a schedule for each hospital campus that was available via QR code that was on custom A-frames and shared via email with all hospital staff. On each campus’ QR code, live menus were updated daily for the trucks visiting that day, allowing for a quick pick up of some of the highest quality entrees. A rotation of food trucks served each campus breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even overnight shifts on weekdays and weekends to ensure all employees received free meals and were included in this program.
"The NYFTA team has been so accommodating and worked swiftly to make any changes we needed on the fly. I would recommend any large organization to work with NYFTA to bring this type of program to their employee population."
The Results
Working with the NewYork Presbyterian Hospital and providing catering needs to hungry workers from a variety of local truck rentals resulted in over 140,000 meals being given out at 11 hospital locations, acting as a lite version of the full-service catering options that can run up a hefty tab. Special event catering and social events are our specialty, and the Hospital Food Truck Program is just one example of the power local food can have on a catered event. From <a href="https://nyfta.org/services/corporate-events-catering">corporate events</a>, holiday parties, <a href="https://nyfta.org/services/food-truck-wedding-catering">weddings</a> and more, NYFTA can provide a level of service with the help of local food trucks that simply can’t be replicated.
