pizzas

The name CG Pizza food truck in NYC, or Culo Grosso, was born in their kitchen while trying to make their yearly tradition a bit more special. Their annual backyard pizza party originated six years ago when they purchased their first wood-fired oven. After a gloomy start to 2020, they turned that year’s party into a pop-up restaurant, curating a humorous menu that their family and friends could order from. The menu items pay homage to their favorite New Yorker Italian-American slang, like “Da Wooden Spoon” or “Whatza Matta You.” Even their name, Culo Grosso, translates from Italian to “big ass,” and who doesn’t get a kick out of that?!

Pizza comes from Italy (like their family), and they try to remind people of that by boasting a large Italian flag at their events. Their logo, the Nonna, was meant to give all Italian-Americans something to relate to. Let’s face it—they’ve all seen a Nonna with a wooden spoon ready to keep everyone in line! Although their menu titles are based on humour, their food will always remain as authentic as possible, “just like my Nonna makes it.” To feed someone well is a Nonna’s way of expressing love and compassion to her family. Nonna taught them the significance of food's preparation and enjoyment in their lives. At the end of a long week, there’s one thing that will always bring them together, and that is good homemade food.

Anthony Cardinale, one of the founders of CG Pizza along with Joseph Pisano, and Joseph Mazzeo started CG Pizza in 2020. Growing up as second-generation Italian-Americans from New York, Anthony's close-knit families taught them the importance of good food made with quality ingredients from a young age. The art of pizza making has been an obsession of ours for over a decade. When the pandemic hit, the inability to go about their normal business in the event industry allowed them to turn our pizza-making obsession into a permanent dedication. Their new free time transformed into sourcing the finest all-natural ingredients, mastering the craft of making dough, and opening our doors in the worst year possible.

The inspiration behind our pizza comes directly from the “Motherland,” Naples, Italy. The vision for CG Pizza in New York has always been to keep our food as authentic as possible, starting with hand-selected ingredients. The wood-fired ovens fire at a steady 900 degrees to cook our pizza within 90 seconds. The wood fire creates a unique flavor that is a necessary “ingredient” in our product. They have mastered the true craft and authenticity of pizza Napoletana and Sicilian specialties. They never settled on perfection and are always trying new ingredients to bring our food to the next level. That is what separates CG Pizza NYC from the rest of ‘em.
